Direct Line McLaren Ancestors

Peter McLaren, born in 1779 in Breadalbane, Perthshire, Scotland, is my great, great, great grandfather. His older brother, John McLaren, born in 1776, followed him from Scotland to Canada, and because their children intermarried we want to look at John's children first.

John McLaren (1776-1859) married Margaret Stirling in 1799 and had:
  1. Findlay (b.~1800) married first cousin Isabella McLaren (see below) - 2 daughters.
  2. James (b.~1801) married first cousin Margaret McLaren (see below) - 8 children.
  3. Janet (b.~1815) married Dr. William Wilson - 4 children.
  4. Peter (b. 1818) "Little Peter" married Mary MacDonald - 5 children.

And now Peter McLaren's descendents, with our direct line ancestors (each a first-born son) in purple.

Peter McLaren  (1779-1827) married Janet Headrick in 1803 and had:
  1. Isabella  (b. 1804) married first cousin Findlay McLaren (see above) - 2 daughters.
  2. Margaret  (b. 1806) married first cousin James McLaren (see above) - 8 children.
  3. John  (b. 1808) married Marion McIlquham (sister of John, below) - 10 children.
  4. Janet  (b. 1810) married Robert Yule - 8 children (including John and Peter McLaren Yule).
  5. Peter  (b. 1813) "Big Peter" married Janet Stewart - 4 children.
  6. David  (b. 1816) married Margaret Stewart - 5 children.
  7. Christina  (b. 1819) married John McIlquham (brother of Marion, above) - 10 children.
John McLaren  (1808-1872) married Marion McIlquham in 1838 and had ten children, nine survived:
  1. Peter  (b. 1839) married Elizabeth Walker - 3 children.
  2. James  (b. 1841) married first cousin Isabella McLaren (daughter of "Big" Peter) - 2 children.
  3. Janet  (b. 1843) married William Smith, Sr. - 10 children.
  4. Isabella  (b. 1845) married Alexander Stewart - 2 daughters.
  5. Margaret  (b. 1847) married Malcolm Fisher - 2 daughters.
  6. John McIlquham  (b. 1850) married Maggie Knox, then Laetitia Wilke - 1 son.
  7. Marion  (b. 1852) lived with brother, James, died in 1897, age 45.
  8. David  (b. ~1854) moved to Manitoba in 1876 and Eureka, CA shortly thereafter.
  9. Walter  (b. 1857) married Mary (Unknown), moved to Manitoba - 4 daughters.
Peter McLaren, Sr.  (1839-1913) married Elizabeth Walker in 1863 and had:
  1. Marion  (b. 1864) married James Sproat Henery - 5 children (including John McLaren Henery).
  2. Peter  (b. 1866) married Mary Celia Dixon - 5 children.
  3. John Walker  (b. 1868) unknown spouse, died at 29 - no children.
Peter McLaren, Jr.  (1866-1945) married Mary Celia Dixon in 1896 and had:
  1. Marion  (b. 1898) married W. F. McLaughlin - 1 child.
  2. Marjorie  (b. 1899) married Earle Butterfield - 3 children.
  3. Elsie  (b.1904) died at 29.
  4. John Dixon  (b. 1912) married Martha Elizabeth Winchester - 2 children.
  5. Robert Charles  (b. 1916) married Juanita Albertine Guthrie - 4 children.
