The Lanark Village Cemetery

In 2003 my brother and I visited a cousin, David James McLaren, in Lanark. We wanted a sense of what the area was like and David James was a gracious guide. Our first activity was to visit the Lanark Village Cemetery, where the original members of the McLaren migration are buried.

This was a surprisingly moving experience. Peter and Janet and John and Margaret had been names in a genealogy program, objects of extensive research, interesting but abstract. Here they were; at rest but very real. They were the reason we enjoyed the sunny day. Their sacrifice provided our bounty.

The Ontario GenWeb Project has posted pictures from this visit. You can see them here:  McLaren Headstones in the Lanark Village Cemetery  [This is a link to another website - use your "back" button to return.]
