Soldier Robert Dixon
This copy of the original photo was forwarded by cousin Dean R. Essig. Robert Dixon is a great grandfather to both Mr. Essig and me.
As the Civil War began, Robert Dixon enlisted in Company E, Fifty-fifth Illinois Volunteer Infantry in August of 1861. He was a Captain when mustered out in August of 1865. Details of his service can be found in the discussion of the Dixon family under "Our Other Ancestors."
